What It’s Like to Referee
Officiating basketball is a front-row seat to the game — you stay active, support young athletes, and help keep competition fair. Don’t worry if you’re new: we provide training, mentorship, and everything you need to get started.

Paid 72 hours after working a game

Typical winter earnings: $1,000–$4,000

Travel: $10 per game
Costs & Dues

Annual dues: $125 (taken from your Arbiter account automatically)
Gear You’ll Need

FOX 40 whistle
-
Black socks & mostly/all-black shoes

Black pants (PublicRec or Gradual styles work well)

WOA Logo shirt (order at woauniformstore.com)

Attend meetings (2 mandatory trainings for new officials)

Contact your referee partner the day before a game

Arrive 20+ minutes early (or notify if delayed)
